& Representative Director
Dr. Hiroshi Furukawa
Dr. Hiroshi Furukawa, PicoCELA CEO and representative director was a professor of the Faculty of Information Science and Electrical Engineering at the Graduate School of Kyushu University. He had also headed up the Furukawa Lab in the Department of Advanced Information Technology at the university for 15 years until 2018.

Prior to joining Kyushu University, he worked at Networking Research Laboratories, NEC Corporation, where he was in charge of studies on radio resource management for 3G. He was responsible for Japan's most important contribution to the global 3GPP standard; his SSDT technology is inside every 3G mobile device and forms the basis for algorithms in the latest 4G devices and byound them.

Dr. Furukawa is a member of IEEE and IEICE, and received the Young Engineer Award from IEICE in 1995. He has been granted 70 patents worldwide and published 2 books and more than 100 technical papers in journals, transactions and international conferences.

PicoCELA CFO & Director
Dr. Jun Nakai
Dr. Jun Nakai serves as a Board of Director and CFO of PicoCELA Inc. since November 2017. Dr. Nakai is also a venture partner of Innovation Engine Inc., a leading Japanese high-tech investment VC.

Prior to joining PicoCELA, he raised total $50 M as CEO and CFO of three startup ventures.

He started his career at Sony developing Compact Disc then obtained Ph.D from MIT in Electrical Engineering majoring optical communications. After MIT, he returned to Sony to develop artificial intelligence, car navigation and wireless communications using spread spectrum.

After Sony, he worked as CEO of Japan branches of several Silicon Valley based companies, then started nurturing ventures as CEO, CTO and CFO.

Dr. Nakai graduated from the University of Tokyo with Bachelor degree in Applied Physics.

Mr. Toshiro Kawamura
In 2009, Mr. Kawamura founded Collabo Business Consulting Co., Ltd. as a Representative Director in charge of management consulting for small and medium enterprises in Japan, Taiwan and China and as a visiting professor at Gifu Keizai University, a part-time lecturer at the Shinshu University School of Business, adviser of CRM Association Japan and Director of State of the Art Technologies Expression Association(SOATASSOC).

Prior to this, he graduated from Keio University in 1965 and worked at NEC Corporation. During 45 years until 2009, he was responsible for basic software development of the mainframe and system development for large-scale user systems, Then, he was appointed senior executive vice president and representative of the board and served as a CEO of IT solution business, software business, system business, BIGLOBE business, planning strategy division, sales division, system division, service division and was responsible for strategic alliance with US company (HP, Oracle, SUN, Cisco, EMC,BEA, etc.), and supervised the operation of NEC's C&C System User Association.

PicoCELA History

The MIMO-MESH Project and the High Performance Wireless Backhaul Project, which ran from 2007 until 2017 as part of the "Silicon Sea Belt Fukuoka Project" was promoted by the Fukuoka Prefectural Government to build an East Asian belt of advanced semiconductor R&D sites. Major research was conducted at Kyushu University. The ten-year program was funded by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (under the Knowledge Cluster Creation Project Phase 2 program) and the Fukuoka Industry, Science and Technology Foundation (Fukuoka IST).
